Nathan Flower teaches movement for actors at Maggie Flanigan Studio and in this video speaks about physical training for actors.
I think its important for actors to understand that they have to evolve they have to change and change is scary. Change means we have to let go of something and for physical training for actors we often have to let go of things that we feel very identified with, things we feel are a part of us.
Some actors young, new actors almost think that is WHO I AM. I am this set of habits. This is what I do in this situation and letting go of those things means letting go of a control of things that we are used to.
We are hard wired to be creatures of habit. We are hard wired to see and repeat patterns in our lives. When patterns changes that is when we get uncomfortable. We get off balance we get nervous. We get anxious. That is happening to an actor on stage.
So I think actors have to imagine that they can develop and grow. In order to imagine that they have to come to terms with the possibility that they are not done physically that they are not fully formed, that what they are bringing to the acting equation physically is not complete.
If they can see that then they can make it happen.
